Indoor Vertical Farm – Barbados

Located at the Ministry of Agriculture compound in Graeme Hall, this pilot facility combines containerised vertical farming with compact aeroponic systems to grow fresh crops in a controlled environment. The approach reduces dependence on conventional agricultural land and external weather conditions.

The facility also serves as a demonstration and training platform. CIF 2026 delegates will see the technology in operation and explore its potential to complement traditional farming, strengthen food security and climate resilience, and support wider adoption across the Caribbean.

Ino-Gro Inc.

Ino-Gro is a Barbadian agribusiness that began with a retrofitted 40-foot shipping container equipped for vertical growing and has since expanded into a commercial-scale greenhouse. Its operation incorporates hydroponics, automated irrigation and fertigation, retractable roofing and shading, and environmental monitoring adapted for tropical production.

The farm currently grows European cucumbers and premium cherry tomatoes for Barbados’ retail, food-service and hospitality markets. Delegates will see how Ino-Gro manages water, nutrients and growing conditions to support consistent production, while exploring the potential to scale local supplies of high-value crops, reduce reliance on imports and create skilled employment.

Pavana Energy Ltd.

Pavana Energy develops climate-resilient wind, solar PV and hybrid energy projects for Barbados and the wider Caribbean. Its work spans site studies, project planning, permitting, implementation, operation and maintenance. The company commissioned a four-turbine wind farm at Ashford Dairy Farm in St. John that is connected to Barbados’ electricity grid.

Delegates will gain insight into renewable energy project development in a hurricane-prone region, including Pavana’s approach to turbines that can be lowered and secured ahead of a hurricane and solar installations engineered with hurricane-force winds in mind. The visit will provide a practical basis for discussing investment in resilient clean energy solutions across the Caribbean.
